Report on In-state tuition bill SB799

Several Conservative activist from Secure Arkansas arrived at the Senate around noon and took positions in front of the Senate. We were able to flag down a few Senators as they moved around before the session started. We also talked to some state representatives who let us know that they would vote SB799 down if it reached the Arkansas House. We decided to use a posterboard sign that was very effective in getting our message to the senators and the media. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette was the first to talk to us. The rest waited until after the vote. There were several bills before SB799 so we had to wait until around 4:00pm before SB799 came up. We kept people outside, including myself, while others went into the Senate Gallery. There were only a few supporters of SB799 in the gallery and only one who appeared to lobby. Rita Sklarr of the ACLU showed up and chatted with a few senators.

Jeannie Burlsworth, Founder and Chairman of Secure Arkansas, is hosting two town hall meetings in Northwest Arkansas which are open to the public and will focus on the impact of illegal immigration on the taxpayers of Arkansas. The first meeting will be held at the Rogers Public Library Monday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the RPL Community Room. The second meeting will be at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale on Tuesday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Jeannie Burlsworth said, "Are you tired of illegal aliens unfairly benefiting from the privileges of citizenship in Arkansas? Then bring your family and friends and voice your concerns.
